Preparing For Worship

Leading up to Sunday May 7

Scripture Passage

Nehemiah 9:1-17, 32-38

Reflection

As we prepare for worship this week, consider what John writes about the Father’s love for us in his first letter.

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure. – 1 John 3:1-3

Through God’s love for us, we are considered His children. As children we often dream about what we will grow up to do or be. Our plans/dreams probably changed often, but one thing was likely – we imagined greatness. I wonder how often our story turns out the way we imagined. There is a similar sentiment in verse 2 above. John tells us that while we do not yet know what we will be, we do know that we shall see him as he is and that we shall be like Him. This is a blessed assurance, indeed.

Reflect on this assurance as you enter into worship this week and ask the Lord to prepare you through the singing of songs, the teaching of His Word, and the shared meal of communion to sing our song of response wholeheartedly.

This is my story, this is my song

Praising my Savior all the day long.
